Son With Special Needs Kills Mom, Leaves Dad In Critical Condition As Police Investigate Cause Of Action

A 27-year-old man with special needs has been arrested after reportedly stabbing his parents at their New Jersey home yesterday.

Michael Litwornia was unresponsive to police who arrived at the home around 8:20pm after a 911 call reported that someone had been stabbed outside the house on Washington Valley Road in Bridgewater.

Authorities found Litwornia's 61-year-old father with stab wounds outside, trying to escape, who told police that his son was responsible.

When they entered, they found the 61-year-old mother with significant injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident led to a three-hour long stand off with Bridgewater Police and Somerset County SWAT and Hostage/Crisis Negotiators, who eventually sent in a robot to communicate with Litowornia.

The device showed him laying on a couch inside the home. When authorities eventually entered around 11pm, he tried to grab a 'sharp force instrument,' but was quickly apprehended.

Officers found him with self inflicted wounds on his body, and transported him to a hospital.

His father is also recovering in hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

Litwornia reportedly suffers from some form of mental illness, though it has not been revealed what disorder specifically.

Police are working to determine what could have motivated the attack.
